When Art Becomes a Companion
For Lynda, one sculpture in the forest has become more than art. It has become a companion. The bronze figure of a woman, once broken and pieced back together by ceramic sculptor, Maria Wickwire, speaks to her in ways that are hard to explain. “Every time I go there, I have to go and say hello,” she shared, describing how she feels drawn back again and again.
“I’ve never had that sort of impact before . . . it was almost compassion, a link to her.”
Circling the sculpture, she finds fresh meaning from every angle: “From every perspective, you feel something different.” For her, the piece has become a mirror of resilience, humanity, and renewal — an anchor in the forest that continues to call her back. This is her meaning, her connection — a reminder that in the Sculpture Forest, each visitor discovers something unique that speaks to them in their own way.

This is beautiful. The way you've captured lived experience in those rings—it feels like the sculpture holds both history and hope.

It’s my favorite one. It’s not like the usual — thing.

Incredible earthly richness!
Sculptor
The Price Sculpture Forest just outside of Coupeville far exceeded any expectations we might have had. We were greeted immediately by Maria Wickwire’s Anillos sculpture, which had provided the impetus for our excursion. To see the bronze rendition of this storied piece in person was very moving for me.
